Background

Sardurii was raised in the backstreets of Tagraad surviving in one of the gangs as a petty thief and con-artist. He had a natural ability for getting into almost any building; getting out however was often another question entirely. Despite his lowly status, Sardurii held a certain pride in his work, and was a thief but never a thug.

Although not the gang-leader, he became the de facto leader of a small band within the gang; those suffering the malice of the boss, Broghun. One of these was a young girl, forced into working as a prostitute, named Diamorna; she and Sardurii became close, and he worked (well, stole) to free her from such a miserable life. This plan fell apart during the Food riots in Tagraad.

In the scramble for survival during the chaos, Sardurii and Diamorna discovered that Broghun was working with the Shadow Government of Taldan, exacerbating the suffering of their city. Their gang war split into a mini civil war, and in the last fight Sardurii killed Broghun: but it was no victory.

Whoever Broghun had been answering to in Taldan was more than just a criminal over-lord; he was Broghun's father, the Tagraad gang-boss one of his many bastard sons. Broghun was being groomed as his heir, and set to make a major shift of power into Tagraad. With his son dead, the overlord struck out in revenge. He failed to capture Sardurii, but Diamorna was taken.

Fleeing Tagraad, Sardurii has spent the years surviving on his wits, and searching for Diamorna; but he never found any trace of her, even in Taldan. However, as the years passed his hope eroded away; he has come to accept that Diamorna may be either beyond his searches or dead. Travelling the land he came, eventually, to Volkraad and found work on a smuggling ship, the Ebony Rose.

Although not the most natural of seafarers, Sardurii endured through the sea-sickness and used his easy-going manner to "ease" the process of customs and acquiring information his captain, Inosanto, prized well. In return Inosanto took Sardurii under his wing, instructing him in the martial arts of his pirate tribes, Ka'Ali.

After 5 years with the smugglers, Sardurii came ashore for the last time, and took his leave from the Ebony Rose, eager to set out for himself. He took to the road again, to acquire wealth and the challenge of the "Big Score". A lot of other peoples gold fell into his hands, and he has gained a little notoriety. However despite learning from the smugglers the virtue of Planning Ahead, his schemes are often based more on the thrill of the risk, rather than on any carefully assessed probability; this has got him into more trouble than the gold has been worth, and more often than not: wealth and poverty are week to week, and imprisonment an occupational hazard.

He boasts of becoming the King of Thieves, but in truth the glory is only a poor substitute for the only quest that ever mattered to him: finding Diamorna.
