Scalyfolk
The lizard-like humanoids native to one of the worlds encountered by the party. They possess a roughly nineteenth century level of technology, and use great apes as beasts of burden and as food. Most never advance beyond 0-level, but some rise to become adventurers, usually by performing great deeds of grit and self-sufficiency. They are known as rugged frontiersfolk, slow to lose their tempers but wrathful when roused. Lawful scalyfolk usually work to bring order and justice to whatever communities they find themselves in, while Chaotic scalyfolk value the freedom that comes with frontier life and usually stay on the move to avoid getting too attached to places. Scalyfolk also have a great love of gold, and Neutral scalyfolk are usually motivated by this love above all else, seeking out remote rivers where flecks of gold have been spotted.
Scalyfolk Characters
All Scalyfolk, levelled or not, gain +1 to AC but lose -1 from Initiative checks.
Scalyfolk level up as Dwarfs with the following changes:
Weapon Training: Scalyfolk are trained in the use of revolvers, rifles, shotguns and gatling guns.
Sword and board: instead of a shield bash, Scalyfolk can use their shield bash action to fire an additional ranged weapon or reload a ranged weapon that requires an action to reload.
Slow: Scalyfolk aren't as short as dwarfs and move a normal 30'.
Underground skills: Scalyfolk live above ground and gain no bonus to detect construction or underground traps. They gain a bonus equal to their level to detect natural outdoor hazards (e.g. quicksand) instead. They retain the ability to smell gold and gems.
Languages: Scalyfolk speak Spanish instead of Dwarven.
