My esteemed friend and colleague Professor Clarkson,

I must admit that when I received your letter I was highly sceptical. The dreams of man are fraught with inaccuracies and fantasy no matter how sound of mind your associate Reverend Devine must be. But, as it was you, and of course my own fascination for the occult and things forbidden drove me to investigate this issue to the best of my abilities. And a most interesting investigation it has been.

I am no doubt sure you are aware of the recent finds of the fishing vessel Annabel sailing out of Peterhead, the exploits of this particular fishing boat being well reported in the Glasgow herald of last Thursday. At first glance these discoveries are an interesting archaeological find but when cross referenced with the criteria set me by you my friend Devine they become extremely exiting indeed.

Your first request intrigued me. Reverend Devine’s dreams pertaining to ancient aquatic structures, dark unfathomable depths and sunken civilisations at first frankly seemed pure gibberish. I asked myself more than once why it was that I was devoting time to this endeavour that I felt surely could be put to better use elsewhere. But, my perseverance has payed off as I have discovered a set of most unusual results.

The first reference I found detailing an underwater city in the northern Atlantic was located in an ancient text of Greek origin. It was written by the infamous but little known Zenophrastus of Crete, a mystic or seer of ill repute who worshipped a number of pagan deities and established a small cult in the 8th century BC. He talks of a great island city named Kled existing pre historically, long before the birth of man where a race of alien creatures best translated from Greek as “The Beings from Before” lived. In his work he writes that a great cataclysm befell the city and that the entire island on which it was situated sunk into the ocean. I surmise that perhaps this could be one of the origins of the myth of Atlantis and its subsequent fall. I am sure you will agree that this fits the bill concerning your first avenue of enquiry pertaining to underwater cities and also ties neatly into your second criteria of events relating to comets or asteroids. I have enclosed a copy of a passage from the text.

What does all this have to do with the findings of the Annabel I hear you ask? Well, it is the artifacts caught in the Annabel’s nets in relation to another work of mythical fiction that this whole thing becomes more intriguing. As you know I have a keen interest in all things Scandinavian and in particular the Norse sagas of old Iceland, I remembered a segment of one saga in particular that bares a remarkable resemblance to what Zenophrastus described many years before. Again I have enclosed the passage.

I think that perhaps the items recovered by the Annabel might have come from one of Hakon Hakonarsson’s lost ships and when combined with the resemblance to the description in Zenophrastus’s writing, It could mean that the Annabel has unwittingly uncovered the remains of the ancient alien city of Kled! It is a long shot but it is up to intrepid men of knowledge such as ourselves to find out. Arrangements are being made for an expedition as you read this letter, exciting times are ahead. It is time to rewrite history my friend.

Professor Thomas Winchester, Glasgow University Archaeology Department

Excerpt from Veneficus Mysterium Malificarum by Zenophrastus. Translated from Latin

For it is related in our darkest and most secret records how once, before the dawn of man and civilisation as we know it had come to pass, an unearthly and ungodly state existed which was home to a completely alien host. This interstellar bastion weathered the course of geological time, starting from a distant point in the Atlantic Ocean and was insolently advancing to attack the whole of the known world. This island which was tenfold the size of beautiful Crete and the Aegean islands combined. It was home to a most hideous race of creatures; the Beings from Before, who built the damned city of Kled which was resplendant with enormous towers of pure shimmering white, the construction of which would baffle the mind of Pythagoras or Pytheos himself the celebrated builder of the temple of Minerva at Priene. They rose like great ivory tusks stretching taller than the mighty colossus or even the great pyramids at Giza. But the plight of these abominations was ultimately a futile one, as not even their marvellous otherworldly power could resist the wrath of the dark gods, a thunderbolt sent from the heavens themselves smited cursed Kled back into the sea, a mighty meteor forged in the court of the daemon sultan Azathoth smashed into the city condemning it to the deep, never to rise again.

Excerpt from The Saga of Hakon Hakanarsson Translated from old Norse

The storm had pushed us off course, way south, I feared we had missed the mainland of my beloved Iceland completely. We had been rowing against the storm for four days and still there was no end in sight. The men were exhausted and dying already. All five longboats in my fleet were reduced to half strength with the frozen bodies of once brave warriors huddled at their berths.

It was the night of the fifth day when the storm grew more intense, we did not believe such weather possible and our fruitful mission was surely cursed. The first vessel went down, something tearing an enormous hole straight through her hull, it disappeared in minutes. It was then that I started to catch glimpses of something in the shallows between the swells of the enormous waves, huge white blocks of crystal started to break the water. They shimmered with an almost phosphorescent glow in contrast to the infinite dark of that fateful night. Suddenly a large wave picked up Snorri’s ship to our right it lifted it up 50 foot in the air, it seemed about to come crashing down on us, we were doomed. But no, it stayed up, floating in the air as the wave pummelled us into the ocean. Snorri’s ship was perched atop a massive column of glowing white unnatural crystal, like some ancient tower taller than the ramparts of our Lord’s stronghold, no man I know could have built such a structure. We could see terrified men jumping overboard as the ship teetered on the edge above the raging sea. It fell without a sound never to be seen again. The furious storm eventually broke and our damaged ship drifted away from that terrible alien place. The fates of the other two longboats in my fleet are unknown, I fear the fish or the architects of that strange, evil palace are the only ones who could answer my questions and I doubt I could muster the courage to ask if presented with the opportunity.

Fishing Vessel Finds Treasure In Net

The Annabel out of Fort William, was fishing 150 miles off the coast in the north east Atlantic when it made an interesting discovery while pulling in its trawling net yesterday morning. A number of potentially ancient artefacts were mingled with the haul of Atlantic Cod. Preliminary tests have been carried out by an archaeology team from Glasgow University and initial thoughts are that the artefacts to be Scandinavian in origin. The items found included a number of rudimentary tools and the almost completely intact prow of a sea faring vessel.

Fire on Scald Law

A fire was seen raging on the south facing side of Scald Law late last night. The blaze burned into the night and the location of the fire was thought to be a small privately owned astronomical observatory that had recently been constructed on the site. A fire crew visited the scene in the morning and confirmed that several wooden structures and a stone building had been deliberately burned to the ground. The police are now on the hunt for the arsonists.

As the bullet fizzes past you, you look up from the floor in the direction that it came. A short distance along the corridor you see one of the Lerwick men with a terrified glazed expression on his face, he is soaked through to the skin and has his back firmly planted against the far wall of the short corridor as if to prevent something sneaking up behind him. His expression turns to relief when he recognises you and he seems to lower his guard just as two thick, six feet long, jet black enveloping arms wrap around the poor man lifting him back and off his feet. Loose disgusting skin hangs from the arms, they are covered in short black hair and end in numerous serrated claws. The man struggles in vain momentarily and then the air begins to shimmer as if it is some kind of illusion. Then there is nothing. Only the solid wall remains.

You are standing on alien, rust red rocky ground, pillars of irregular living stone tower above you jutting out at strange angles and dimensions. The barren landscape is vast and stretches out as far as the eye can see. Suddenly the ground begins to shake and you are thrown from your feet, a great fissure cracks across the ground. Within seconds it is tens of miles across, it must be the end of the world; an enormous earthquake is literally tearing the ground apart. Suddenly you shoot up into the air away from what you previously thought was the surface propelled by some irresistible force, it is too much for you to withstand and you pass out from the pressure. You awake to find yourself floating hundreds of miles above a vast red celestial body, its surface cracked cratered and entirely alien. You look around and are aware of the incredible speed you must be traveling at, galaxies and globular clusters of stars hurtle by all around you none of which are familiar. As you gaze at the red planet you see just how immense it must be, it hangs ponderously, communicating a thunderous sense of imminence, of power. Then it moves, the surface of the planet begins to peel back, your mind is racing, a planet can’t peel back! A continent size section of the planet is rolling back like a giant eyelid to reveal something pale and glistening underneath, you sense the planet searching the galaxy, you can feel the immense power of this great celestial body pulling and warping the universe around it as it passes in the dark, disrupting the natural order of things.

Durie’s Diary from Inchcolm

Is a small leather bound religious diary almost certainly hundreds of years old, it is very fragile. Written on the inside front cover is:

When he who passes in the Darkness comes again, the walls shall shake. The illusion shall crumble and man, cringing in terror, shall destroy himself rather than face the gods in battle.

•	Is a monk on Inchcolm.
•	During the reformation Durie is very worried to see the church rip itself apart, he begins to have doubts in his faith.
•	He wishes he was stronger like the other monks and pleads with god to send him a sign to validate his worship.
•	Starts having strange dreams about a great power approaching the earth soon and assumes it is god trying to contact and lead him.
•	Tells the abbot about his thoughts and dreams and how this power is approaching.
•	The abbot deems this blasphemous and sacrilegious and locks him away in the underground religious archives of the abbey on bread and water where he will have to read and study to serve a penitence for his thoughts. The only person he has any contact with for the next 4 months is a young monk named Bruce, he is charged with delivering Durie’s meals.
•	While in the archive he begins to converse with this entity. Calls it “He who passes in the Darkness” It teaches him much and he starts work on his book “The untitled teachings of Lachlan Durie”. He falls under its sway.
•	He learns many secrets and of the existence of “The Daemon Sultan Azathoth” and how if the stars are right then a gateway can be opened to the court of Azathoth at the centre of the universe.
•	The passing of “He who passes in the Darkness” is the key to opening the gate.
•	He begins to communicate with “He who passes in the Darkness” who will send a sign of his coming and approval of Durie’s work, Durie realises that his old god was false and unrewarding and gets the sense that he has been wasting his time worshipping a false idol.
•	Durie performs a ritual to attract the entity to Inchcolm.
•	A comet strikes Inchcolm destroying much of the abbey both from impact and fire. This traps Durie underground as the abbey collapses on top of him and kills many of the monks.
•	Durie is forgotten about and he begins to starve, he prepares for his own death and curses his wasted life worshipping God.
•	He tries to dig his way through the rubble and dust but is too weak.
•	As he is about to give up and he is delirious a voice in his head appears and seems to guide him through the dark.
•	He comes upon two monks, Bruce and another who has killed in the disaster, Bruce is barely alive and Durie begins a ritual taught to him by “He who passes in the Darkness” and feasts on their corpse of the dead monk, he then decides to feed the dying Bruce some of the flesh and Bruce too heals and becomes well again.
•	Durie’s strength increases as he embraces his new diet and he feels super human, He is able to find more corpses of his former brothers and consumes them, Bruce however is appalled by the cannibalism and he leaves the island. Durie starts to spend his days eating and writing his book and lives by eating the corpses of the dead monks. He writes by day then digs at night searching for the fragment of the comet that must still be here after it fell.
•	The monks have abandoned the abbey and that he is alone there. He also can feel the presence of the fragment of something else brought to earth with it.
•	He is only one man and his search is proving very hard indeed, he has run out of corpses to eat and he is feeling very weak.
•	He decides to leave the island in search of another meal.
•	He feasts on a local farm girl and is about to go back to Inchcolm.
•	On the way back he sees lights approaching in a number of boats and realises that the game is up, the monks are returning in great numbers. He knows he will have to answer for his crimes and that the remains of the monks he ate are there for all to see. He flees back to the mainland, and watches as the monk’s burn the abbey to the ground.
•	That night he is inconsolable, his book was on the island now lost to him and he feels like he has been abandoned again by his new god, while sleeping in a barn he has another dream this time of another fragment falling towards an ancient stone tower.
•	He decides to set off to locate it.

An occult Christian text written in Latin

The Untitled Teachings of Lachlan Durie

In Latin, attributed to Lachlan Durie the Mad Monk of Inchcolm Abbey, 1561, Only known copy.

A large tome bound in dark hide, probably pig skin and neatly hand written in ink. Split into three parts.

The first section is a critical response to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, Durie seems to suddenly question the existence of god and is appalled to see the church rip itself apart from the inside. It is here that the first seeds of his doubt are sewn as he is waiting for a sign from god that will show the true path and unify the church once more. The second and largest part of the book details Durie’s views and his life on Inchcolm. He begins to think that there is no such thing as God or heaven and realises that his time on earth is so very limited and that he has wasted half of it worshipping a god that doesn’t exist. Suddenly he begins to dream of an entity known as “He who passes in the Darkness” he initially interprets this being as a messenger of god. He talks to his Abbot about this and the Abbot deems this blasphemous and confines Durie to the archives of the monastery deep underground, he is sent to study the religious texts and contemplate his heretical ways. This however only serves to confirm his new notions and he loses faith completely as he begins to have strange dreams and talks to this new entity, he learns what he thinks are many truths and begins to hypothesise and search for ways to extend his life on earth so he may learn as much as he can. The third section of the book is written in a much more careless hand and is obviously the work of a much changed mind. It switches between the teachings of two entities referred to as “He who passes in the Darkness” who is the messenger and herald of a deranged being known as “The Daemon Sultan who dwells at the centre of the Universe” and there is a section describing unholy rituals and cannibalistic practices and how such practices may lengthen one’s life, heal even the most grievous of wounds and grant the consumer enhanced physical strength and endurance.

April 14th
We have just left Edinburgh to follow up on Passelov’s calculations, the Russian thinks that the most likely trajectory of the comet all those years ago would mean that it would have passed over the outer Hebrides and in particularly Shetland. I am troubled to be leaving however I wanted to explore the meaning of my recurring dream a bit further and have asked Clarkson to contact his friend at The University of Glasgow regarding the potential meanings of my dreams. But, I must look ahead for if Passelov is right my dreams will pale in significance once we possess another fragment of the comet.

April 15th
I had my recurring dream last night, I am standing at the edge of the plateau again overlooking the sunken city below, my eyes take time to adjust to the gloom and the pale phosphorescent glow from the coral that clings to the crumbling white walls down here. Faint rays of sunshine from the surface are barely visible at this depth occasionally penetrating the endless dark green of the deep. The plateau is huge and must have been pentagonal once, it stretches off in both directions behind me until it hits the enormous crack that surely split the plateau in two perhaps spelling its doom and plunging it into the waves. What could have caused such destruction. The chasm it has created is immense, I cannot see the bottom, who knows what long forgotten secrets dwell down there in the cold black. Suddenly my attention is caught by movement further down the ramp that leads off the plateau, at first I can’t see anything against the vast expanse of the alien metropolis that stretches into the distance, the city is never ending and unfathomably old. There it is again, this time my eye focuses in on the movement, a nightmare become real, an enormous, formless black shape moved amongst the white towers and domes below, not an animal, more collection of connected oily globules slithering and flowing beneath me. I watch horrified as a multitude of eyes fleetingly form on the things faintly glowing skin, they open and close scouring the depths. A haunting noise emanates from the creature almost ridiculing my insignificance, Tekeli-li, Tekeli-li. I instinctively turn to flee from the monster but manage to stop myself, I feel like I’m here for a reason, there is a fragment here, it draws me deeper into the abyss...

April 16th
My recurring dreams of the deep have curiously become less frequent as I have moved north away from Edinburgh. I hope that this is a good omen...

April 17th
I fell asleep easily in my cabin last night to the gentle rock of the ferry as we left Thurso. The dreams came quickly but this time very different. I am standing out in the open while a great storm rages all around me, the night is impossibly dark and I have a sense of a great chasm beneath. A flash of light sparks as a huge blast of electricity cracks through the sky illuminating my surrounds. I am on a barren cliff top completely exposed to the elements, the cold rain bites at my naked body and the wind buffets me as I struggled to maintain my balance on the precipice. Then I see it, the ancient, isolated tower standing sentinel on the rocky island as it has done for a thousand years, a raging sea stands between it and I but I know I have to get there, the fragment is calling....
I am beginning to think Passelov’s hunch was right. Of all the proposed trajectories of the comet he had insisted the one over Shetland was most likely to prove fruitful. Here I am on the ferry to that very island while my dreams become ever more vivid. I must telegram Passelov once i reach Lerwick to tell him of the good news, I am filled with hope.

April 18th morning
I awoke this morning in Lerwick having dreamed of it again.
I am stood inside the tower this time, it’s ancient, ruined walls rise up above me on all sides, I can sense the sheer age and importance of this site, the fragment is pulsing, drawing me down to it.
It must be under this tower, we shall set off in search of it today, I feel further correspondence with Passelov is needed.
Despite this encouraging vision something sits uncomfortably with me today, my hunger grows and I feel terrible for it. Brodie and Christie grow more irritable as well, it has been days since we last fed properly, must find food tonight, we will need strength to search for the tower in this barren and inhospitable place, I wonder if we can befriend a drunk or find ourselves a lone shepherd tomorrow night? A good meal and I will feel much better about the challenges ahead.
April 18th evening
We fed and feel much better for it, we think we have located the tower but the locals have warned us from venturing to near to it, they say it is haunted and that it is a dangerous place. I shall not be deterred however, the prize is too great, we will press on.

Bullough’s last letter, dated April 2nd 1924

Dear Charles
I am writing to you once more for two reasons, the first being the sterling job you did for me on your last visit to Rhum and the second that I fear I have no one else to write to. After you intrepid fellows left for the mainland things were initially most agreeable, the disappearances stopped and I have managed to recruit several new staff into housekeeping here on the island. The only employees that I now have any grievances with are Mr Hart and Mr Brodie who I assume you remember well from your visit. After you left, their attitudes towards me changed considerably, while never having been the most jovial of fellows they were always efficient and most loyal. Your visit though seemed to have stirred up in these men a deep hostility and in the days after your departure I could not get these two to do a damn minute of work. Further Mr Brodie decided to leave for the mainland without permission two days after your departure and returned with a Gentleman named Edmund Sutherland an apparent old army friend of my fathers [[Bullough Sr.]]. I admit to never having heard of the man and his youthful appearance placed him at least twenty years my fathers’ junior. Sutherland was looking for some old books that he thought my father had sequestered here on the island, he claimed they were precious to him and that he and my father had found these books while travelling in the Indian Sub-continent. I allowed him access to the library but he left again for the mainland after a laborious but ultimately fruitless search. I kept both Brodie and Hart on due to the fact that I was struggling to find any staff at all let alone efficient candidates but their attitudes only worsened towards me almost to the point where I now feel like a prisoner in my own house. If I try to leave, one or both follow me like a damned shadow. They give me dirty looks and are uncouth to say the least, I see them whispering in shadows and now the other staff grow uneasy around them. I’m sure they conspire against me. The matter has gotten worse for when out smoking today I’m sure I noticed this Edmund Sutherland character skulking around at the back of the house, I gave chase but whomever it was managed to evade my pursuit. I can’t help but feel that he is somehow connected to my own fathers down fall and the unlikely turn of events that you witnessed here on Rum and indeed it was this latest development that prompted me to write this letter. I implore you to return to Rum and help me get to the bottom of this, perhaps I am jaded and paranoid but either way I fear I won’t be able to sleep soundly until this matter is resolved.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Macrimmon’s letter, dated April 18th 1924

Dear Professor Fotheringshaw
I have no idea if I have done the right thing by getting you involved in all this but I had no one else to turn to and I had to tell someone about my last days on Rum.
You may not remember me, my name is Mrs Joan MaCrimmon and I have been in the employ of the Bullough family and in particular Sir George on Rum for a number of years.
Where to start? It was the morning of the 13th of April and i had to go down into the cellar to retrieve some coal, not my usual duty but Isaac and Jack were becoming more and more difficult to work with and had started neglecting their duties instead helping sir George tear the house apart looking for something that they had misplaced, just that morning Isaac had been tearing great holes in the floor and pulling down all the old book cases in the library, I had offered my help but was told rather rudely to mind my business. But the first real thing I noticed was amiss that morning was when I arrived at the cellar door, it had been chained up and padlocked which was most unusual. I decided to inquire at Jack’s room as to why it had been barred but he was not in, no doubt off drinking somewhere or tearing great holes in the old walls of the Library with Isaac. I quickly found a large set of keys however and managed to unlock the door. As I entered the dark room a strong smell of death hit me and I assumed that some wild animal had been trapped and then died in the confined space. I fumbled with my lantern and soon I could see the shape of a body at the other end of the small room, I hurried over to see if I could help the man but to my horror I realised it was Sir George! It was all I could do not to scream right there in the darkness, I ran from the cellar and back into the house through the scullery door almost knocking over Isaac and another man in the process, the other man was Sir George himself! I made my excuses saying I had work to do and left, they seemed very preoccupied with their continued search and didn’t notice my obvious discomfort. I ran upstairs to get Sir George’s pistol from his dresser and it was there that I found the enclosed letter addressed to you Professor Fotheringshaw. My mind began to spin while I tried to work out what I had just seen, the body in the cellar was unmistakeably Sir George despite his partial decomposition, he was wearing his favourite smoking jacket and his silver family ring was right there on his finger. But who was the figure that I had almost knocked over in the hall and that I had been attending to this past week? It was then that a deep fear swept over me, Sir George had been acting very strangely recently and had been nothing like his usual self, I remember when it started, Sir George did not come down for his supper one evening and he never misses steak and ale pie, it was his favourite. I think it must have been the evening of the 3rd of April. That is when Sir George assisted by Isaac and Jack started their infernal search, they were knocking great holes in the walls and pulling up floorboards of many of the great rooms of the manor. Sir George also became very rude and began taking his meals in his room, he was eating very little and I even found food I had prepared for him in his bedpan. A few days later he left for Inverness with Jack while Isaac continued the search, this time he was out at the mausoleum and down by the caves. When Sir George returned he was in an even fouler mood and there was no sign of Jack. Then this morning Isaac had cornered me in the kitchen and asked me if I knew anything about you and your companions visit and if you had found and subsequently removed any old books while on the island, I said that I had no idea but that I seemed to remember your friend Maurice or Mo as he preferred carrying out some repairs in the library, Isaac flew into a rage and I thought he was going to strike me right there but they both took off at high speed in the direction of the library. It was then that I headed to the cellar and made my discovery as i mentioned earlier in my letter.
So there I was sitting on the floor of Sir George’s study clutching the pistol and the letter addressed to you. I decided I needed to leave Rum immediately and as incredulous as it must surely sound to you reading this the conclusion that I had drawn was that I was in the company of murderers and indeed Sir George’s long lost twin brother returned from god only knows where. I fled for the old town on the shore and managed to find a row boat there and made the perilous journey to the mainland that night. From there I made my way on foot to my brother’s house in Inverness not wanting to arouse any suspicion as I was sure Sir George’s murderers were on my tail and would do the same to me. My progress was very slow and my brother had urged me not to get involved but it was when I saw the news in the paper of Sir George’s suicide that I decided I had to send you a letter at least telling you of what happened on Rum and to forward the letter addressed to you found in Sir George’s Study. (which I have not read) I am truly sorry to have dragged you and your friends into this but the fact that i have barely slept a wink and I feel I owe it to Sir George to try and help much more capable individuals as yourselves get to the bottom of this ghastly affair.
Yours, Mrs Joan MaCrimmon
P.S. I have no further wish to be contacted regarding this matter, I wish to put it from my mind and attempt to go back to my normal life.

Excerpt from occult text “[[The Untitled Teachings of Lachlan Durie]]”

It has come from the inner reaches of the centre of the universe, flung deep across space on its unnatural voyage straight from the bosom of the mighty Daemon Sultan Azathoth himself. Many times this great body has passed over our home but invisible it goes undetected. Great disaster and catastrophe precede its coming and follows in its wake. Many a sorcerer or astrologer has foretold its coming by the signs of the outriders of this ancient star. The passing of the age of the serpent men, the extinction of the terrible lizards and the fall of mighty Atlantis are but a few of the disasters attributed to this unspeakable being. Great Eibon himself perhaps learned his wonders from the remnants of these destroyed peoples, yet even he knew but a tenth of what they had learned. And they did learn the secrets of He who passes in the Darkness.

After the kidnapping and murder of the last session... The injured [[Fotheringshaw]] and [[Victoria]] are taken to Edinburgh Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds sustained in the firefight with the cannibal kidnappers. Everybody else is released after being interviewed by the police and their story corroborated by a number of sources. The police are now aware that the players are mixed up in all this one way or another and are assigned a police escort in the form of Jamie [[McNish]], a young officer just out of the academy.

The players all had the same dream again, this time the dream went further than before with the newborn baby being lowered into the pit. They all awake suddenly with the feeling that something dreadful was happening.

Once everyone wake from the dream Professor [[Douglas]]’s phone rings and Fu Wong informs Douglas that there has been a break in at the department. After the sleep deprived investigators arrive at the department there is already a police car and an ambulance there. The night watchman has been found dead in his cabin with a look of terror on his face and the door locked from the inside. It gets more interesting when the cause of death is revealed as drowning.

Once inside the yard, Mrs Crabtree is found unconscious and when she is brought round she tells the players that two bears were inside the building and that they were carrying large sacks and filling them with books. It looks like the department has been searched but all that seems to be missing is books, the ghoul thieves stopped short at the door leading to the restricted area. Augustus has an idea that perhaps the ghouls are territorial and have been put off by the smell of the stuffed ghoul in the room behind the door.

The players work out that someone must have had a key in order to get access to the department from the yard and head off to the security office and the only other key. They find out that the key is missing and the man at the desk was snoozing on the job. Professor [[Clarkson]], a theology professor is spotted by an on duty cleaning woman talking to some strange figures, including a portly man with a slick haircut and a moustache in the courtyard last night so the players head off to his office to speak to him.

They don’t find him in but manage to talk to his colleague, Prof. Lewellan, he informs the players of Clarkson’s increasingly erratic behaviour and that he hasn’t seen him for several days. He also mentions that Clarkson has become increasingly obsessed with astronomy and also with a group known as the [[Tuesday Night Club]]. Lewellan gives the investigators the address to Clarkson’s Broughton flat.

The investigators gain access into Clarkson’s stairwell and proceed up to his top floor flat, Stevenson picks the lock and the investigators proceed in. As soon as the players enter the flat they are charged down by two starved Doberman dogs who savage a couple of the party. Once the dogs are subdued the players get a chance to search the flat, they manage to turn up a land purchase receipt for an area of land in the pentland hills and a map with an area circled. They also find an interesting letter [[Letter for Clarkson from Winchester]] addressed to Clarkson from a Professor [[Winchester]] of Glasgow University. As they are about to leave they notice a glowing ball of fire floating up the middle of the staircase burning and blackening everything in its path. The players retreat back into Clarkson’s flat and close and block the door behind them. They start tying bedsheets together and look to climb down to safety from the window. Augustus sticks his head out to check the coast is clear and promptly takes a rifle round to the forehead reducing his head to a puff of red mush. A terrified Victoria runs to the next window down and manages to shoot the cultists outside just as the fire creature bursts through flat door. After a frantic climb down the wall all the remaining investigators survive and decide to have a look in Greyfriars Cemetery where they followed the ghouls on the previous night.

Once in the cemetery the players detect a lot of ghoul activity and stumble upon the mangled corpse of one of the ghouls they were tailing. The ghoul has been torn limb from limb possibly by other ghouls. This backs up the theory that perhaps ghouls are territorial and the ones residing in greyfriars didn’t appreciate the newcomers.
Prominent business man and landowner Sir George [[Bullough]] 38, has apparently committed suicide by drowning at some point last week. His yacht “The Mystery” was found drifting 30 miles out to sea in the Forth of Clyde by Duncan Jamison a local fisherman on Sunday night. Seeing that the vessel was listing slightly and that the sails had not been tightened to the wind Jamison decided to investigate and discovered that no one was aboard. Fearing a crime had been committed and that he would be implicated he got back on his boat and immediately returned to Inverkip to inform the coastguard. The coastguard commandeered “The Mystery” and brought it back to Inverkip harbour. Local authorities searched the vessel but found no-one onboard only a handwritten suicide note apparently from Bullough. The police have searched everywhere for signs of Bullough fearing possible foul play but it seems that the tragic events must be true. The last people to see Bullough alive were Jack Brodie, Bullough’s gamekeeper and Isaac Hart, Bullough’s Groundskeeper who both waved farewell to Bullough on his yacht on Friday afternoon. Hart when asked how Bullough had seemed immediately before his departure remarked “Bullough was his normal cheerful self”. Martin George of George and Buchanan Law Firm, Inverness who was Bullough’s lawyer has issued the following statement concerning the estate “Due to Sir George Bullough having no next of kin he has left his considerable estate including the isle of Rhum and the ownership of the Bullough Cotton Mills to third parties.
A terrible series of events took place yesterday evening at Edinburgh Hospital. In the late hours of last night a masked man burst in to a delivery theatre while a delivery was taking place. The woman who wishes to remain anonymous had seconds before just given birth when the man appeared. The man was brandishing a curved blade and grabbed the duty nurse from behind and slit her throat before instructing the doctors present to back up against the far wall of the theatre. As the doctors complied the man proceeded to cut the wailing infants umbilical cord, bundle it into a sack and then flee the scene. An off duty police officer who was at the hospital concerning another matter and an orderly heard the commotion and pursued the assailant cornering him against a locked door after a short chase. The policeman drew his service revolver and commanded the suspect to relinquish the child. The assailant did no such thing preferring to throw the new born out of the adjacent open window and charging headlong into his pursuers. The officer in question fired three times hitting the man twice killing him instantly. The officer and the orderly are in shock, P.C. Stewart commented that the man had a crazed look in his eyes and Orderly Stevens remarked that he must surely have been deranged. The baby did not survive the fall to the car park below. The assailant was identified as Richard Maldoon, 25 of Dalgety Bay, at first glimpse a normal factory worker with no criminal record and a church going man.
Wolf Man Steals Farmer’s Lorry!

Giles Turnberry a farmer from Aviemore reported his livestock lorry stolen in the early hours of Sunday morning to a bemused local constable on the nightshift at Aviemore police station. The confused farmer told police that he had seen a huge hairy bi-pedal creature ripping the passenger side cabin door off his brand new lorry before unlocking the driver’s side for an unknown accomplice. Turnberry later admitting that he had been drinking that night but he would not rescind his statement insisting that it was a werewolf responsible for the theft. Strangely enough, Turnberry’s vehicle was nowhere to be seen on his property when officers searched the area and was later found abandoned in a roadside ditch on the outskirts of Inverness. The plot thickens as the cabin of the Lorry was indeed missing the passenger side door, what do the people of Inverness think? Is there a Wolf Man stealing trucks in the highlands? Make sure you secure your vehicles when the moon is full. A statement from Aviemore police said “Mr Turnberry’s lorry has been safely returned.”
McEwen is a little concerned that the other five investigators who were on Rhum with Fotheringshaw are all either missing or dead.

That night all six of the investigators have a similar [[strange dream]] where they are deep underground in a stone chamber standing and chanting in a circle surrounding a deep hole. Victoria tries to paint the scene in the morning but her art does not turn out as she had hoped.

The journey from Edinburgh to Inverkip is uneventful and when they arrive at the yacht they notice a reporter [[Andrew Gordon]] from the Glasgow herald is trying unsuccessfully to gain access to the yacht. Once onboard the investigators enter the wheel house to a horrific scene. Strange characters and symbols have been written all over the walls and desk in blood and the [[Bullough Suicide Note]] is pinned to the desk by a large carving knife.

After closer inspection of the characters by Victoria they quickly become apparent as a crude imitation of occult symbols. Cumbersomething identifies the blood as cows blood and the whole set up is extremely fishy to say the least. Stevenson has an unnerving feeling of being watched while on the boat so decides to leave and try to speak with the reporter on the shore.

Meanwhile Augustus spots a bald man on another vessel and alerts the two soldiers who head off in pursuit. After having a cagy conversation with the reporter Stevenson heads back down to the dock, he bumps into the bald man coming the other way and recognises him as [[Isaac Hart]]. Stevenson tries to communicate with the man but gets no reaction until he mentions Fotheringshaws name. Hart is initially hesitant but proceeds to punch Stevenson in the gut winding him, he goes to knock him out but is interrupted by the two soldiers who have sneaked up on him. He flees and Cumbersomething stops to assist Stevenson while Morgan takes off after Hart. After a brief chase a fist fight ensues and Hart knocks out Morgan and breaks his nose with a punch to the face and disappears by the time Cumbersomething arrives on the scene.

Victoria then tracks Harts footsteps to a small b&b on the outskirts of town, it appears he has assaulted the old woman who runs the b&b before speeding off towards Glasgow on his motorbike. Morgan consoles the old woman and plies her with brandy as the others uncover 4 hunks of human flesh wrapped in a 3 day old Inverness courier newspaper. They also find an unopened [[Telegram for Hart]] simply instructing him to return to Inverness. The investigators conclude that the fastest way to get to Inverness for hart would be by train so they endeavour to try and catch the afternoon train to Inverness as well. Having no form of transport they quickly fast talk one of the police men into letting them borrow his vehicle and head off siren wailing back down the Clyde to Glasgow. A flat tyre and some quick repair later they arrive at the station just as the train is pulling in. They decide to abandon the rifle as it is two big to conceal but armed with several side arms and a hidden shotgun they all prepare to board the train for Inverness.

If there is more to the suicide than meets the eye then who will benefit from the death of George Bullough?
