The McKenzie Scheme
Originally financed by the the McKenzie chain of supermarkets in 2024, the scheme became notorious for methods used in its cheap and shoddy construction within the Granton arcology. Many of the blocks on the scheme have been closed pending refurbishment, whilst other have been closed due to environmental hazards. Some blocks are without power sources of their own relying on standby D-engine units leased from private companies.
The scheme is one of the Edinburgh NEG pet projects: many would like to see it levelled and rebuilt, whilst others argue that it still provides cheap low-cost housing. Those in favour of retaining the scheme seem to be unaware of the damp and unhealthy condition prevalent in these blocks, not to mention the social problems.
