Our intrepid adventureers, following up on the 'F.S.' embroidered handkerchief, decided to investigate the merchant Franz Steinhager. Seib was able to deduce that the Steinhager office building is roughly above the temple room they fought the demon in. The party waited until nightfall and then sent Ludo up onto the roof where he saw a courtyard with a dog and what appeared to be one drunken nightwatchman. With Fritz keeping watch on the roof, the party 'stealthily' entered the courtyard. If by 'stealthily' we mean started the dog barking, argued over Priscilla's refusal to kill the dog, Seib fell from the roof and crashed to the ground, Johann threw his mace into the adjoining alleyway by mistake and Ludo finally hit with his sling only to nearly tear the old watchman's arm from his socket...

After finally dispatching the dog and retrieving the mace the party began to search the offices. Priscilla, fearful for the old man's life, tended to the watchman's wounds to keep him from death. In the offices the party found papers bearing the symbol of the star and goat's head familiar to them from the temple and a letter addressed to Franz from a Johanns Teugen referring to a sacrifice and promising that the 'ritual' would be complete at the stroke of midnight on the last day of Shaffenfest... Nothing of any interest was found in the other offices, except evidence that Franz' brother Heinrich is a drunk and manifests for the Seinhager's warehouses.

Continuing their 'stealthy' approach the party began loudly breaking open a safe in Franz' office, as well as a door at the bottom of a secret staircase. Naturally this alerted the city watch, but the entire party were able to steal away through the secret door with two chests from the safe, unsurprisingly finding themselves in the temple room in the sewers before making their way back to Josef's barge with their ill-gotten goods. After outwitting a guard patrol investigating the robbery of the Steinhagen's payroll, the chests were opened to reveal a book written in odd script and an absolute tonne of newly minted gold to be shared among the delighted party.

The next day the town was full of discussion about the robbery. Some claimed it was dwarfs, even more blamed the rival trading family of the Haagens, but everyone agreed that the robbers had murdered the watchman by slittilng his throat from ear to ear... Deciding that more allies were needed, the party attempted to make contact with the Haagen's being informed that they were away on business in Marienburg, but a representative would meet them that night in the Golden Trout Club. While at the Merchant offices they saw MAgistrate Richter rush in and storm through to the office of one Johann Teugun. Johann and Ludo waited until he came out, only to find him suddenly feeling very ill. Johan rushed him to a nearby temple while Ludo received an ominous summons to come see Teugen straight away...

Finding that the priestess was not in the temple, Johan made haste to find her, searching the area affectionately know as 'The Pit'. The others went to the market to buy fancy clothes and encountered a strange man rambling about seeing 'seven' and 'nine', how the 'star in the circle meant death' and to beware the 'man who is not a man' before claiming one of the party (I completely forget who) was marked for death and running off. The now-found priestess deemed that the Magistrate was suffering from the same rare affliction that had killed Teugen's elder brother two years ago and he was unlikely to last long. Investigation into the Magistrate's activities the night before revealed that he was visited by the Captain of the Watch who seemed in unusually high spirits afterwards...

Feeling it was time to confront their enemy, the party visited Teugen who they discovered was also the City Councillor. His office was completely sheltered from sunlight and he drank a deep red liquid as he informed the party that he had been keeping track of their adventures in the city, claimed once again that the Ordo Septenarius were a charitable organisation and mentioned that he would also be at the Golden Trout Club for their meeting that night. Another man, Gideon, rumoured to have come with Teugen from Nuln, enters the office reeking of garlic, disturbing Teugen. The party leave, now knowing that their enemy is on to them... Just how deep does this conspiracy go? Can our party find allies they can trust? Can they stop the ritual? And just what IS the ritual, anyway?
